Peñalver (1937-1995), the quintessential 20th Century American Surrealistic Artist of his generation, was a prolific painter before his paralysis in 1979. The ensuing years were challenging as he depicted his transition from walking to wheels in hundreds of paintings. Iris (1981); is one of a suite of four floral paintings by Ricardo who was inspired and painted these works consecutively (Spring Bouquet, Daffodils and Yellow Mums & Pink Roses are the others).
