Peñalver (1937-1995), the quintessential 20th Century American Surrealistic Artist of his generation, was a prolific painter before his paralysis in 1979. The ensuing years were challenging as he depicted his transition from walking to wheels in hundreds of paintings. Passionate Embrace (1981); with Ricardo and Alexa affectionately caressing, was painted after the couple returned from viewing the Picasso Retrospective at the MOMA in New York City a few months earlier. Still rehabilitating from his injuries, this painting is a left-handed work of art.
