Peñalver (1937-1995), the quintessential 20th Century American Surrealistic Artist of his generation, was a prolific painter before his paralysis in 1979. The ensuing years were challenging as he depicted his transition from walking to wheels in hundreds of paintings. Sphere Essence (c.1994) continually fascinated with the power of the sphere and the spine, Ricardo epitomizes his passion in this work, one of his last paintings.
