Peñalver (1937-1995), the quintessential 20th Century American Surrealistic Artist of his generation, was a prolific painter before his paralysis in 1979. The ensuing years were challenging as he depicted his transition from walking to wheels in hundreds of paintings.
Power of the Spinal Cord (1988); powerful self reflection painted by Ricardo just after his 'other birthday' 9 years later. Ricardo made it a point to paint himself each year close to the 11th of August when his life was alter forever after being paralyzed.
