Peñalver (1937-1995), the quintessential 20th Century American Surrealistic Artist of his generation, was a prolific painter before his paralysis in 1979. The ensuing years were challenging as he depicted his transition from walking to wheels in hundreds of paintings. La Familia (c.1968); Ricardo painted this work as a young able-bodied man who was active with social change in America in the late 60s.
